Important Program Dates - TWO CALLS THIS YEAR
Call 1: General - Awards up to $5,000
All areas of education will be considered. Those that focus on the theme of “Learn from the Past, Transform Our Future” are encouraged.
- Phase I Deadline for Submission: August 4, 2023 by 12 pm
- Phase II Invitations: August 23, 2023
- All Grant Finalists must present to the IEE Managing Board: September 27, 2023 from 8 am to 10 am
Funding Begins: Immediately
Call 2: Continuing Medical Education (CME) - Awards up to $7,500
In partnership with the Office of Continuing Medical Education (CME), grants are available and only scholarly projects that focus on CME will be considered.
Topics may include (but are not limited to): Innovative CME programs, Innovative delivery of CME programs (can be for existing CME programs), Interprofessional CME, Enhancing faculty diversity and representation in CME, ILP (Individual Learning Plans), Assessment/Evaluation of existing or new CME activities, Coaching within CME, Use of technology in CME.
- Phase I Deadline for Submission: October 23, 2023 by 12 pm
- Phase II Invitations: November 15, 2023
- All Grant Finalists must present to the IEE Managing Board: December 13, 2023 from 8 am to 10 am
- Funding Begins: Immediately
Application Phases

For Phase I a brief written proposal which will be reviewed for consideration for a live presentation to the IEE Managing Board.
Please indicate:

- Principal Investigator (Must be SOM faculty member)

- Racial/Ethnic Identity: Please list all that apply (e.g. American Indian or Alaskan Native; Black or African American; Asian; Hispanic, Latinx or of Spanish Origin; Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander; White; Other – write in however you identify). You may also note that you prefer not to provide race/ethnic identity information.

- Proposal (strict 350-word maximum)
- Include the following three sections:
- Problem to be solved/statement of importance
- Proposal/methods - what you plan to do
- Assessment plan (and possible dissemination)
- Include the following three sections:
- Identify which of the JHUSOM Foundational Principles for Teaching and Education your proposal will reflect, utilize or address.
- Budget (Including other support. Please use a concise table format.)
Proposals will be judged considering the following criteria:
- Importance of topic
- Uniqueness or innovation
- Methods
- Assessment plan, tied to objectives
- Scope and feasibility for the amount requested
- Likelihood of dissemination and/or meaningful next steps
- Promotion of the mission and vision of the IEE
- Investment of PI in the proposal
- Addressing at least one of the “JHUSOM Foundational Principles for Teaching and Education”

Finalists must present to the Managing Board. PI must be present for live presentation.
- Presentation should follow the outline of the submitted proposal (10 minutes)
- Questions, feedback and discussion with the board (15- 20 minutes)
